Adventure to
the end of the world.
55 days on motorcycles, from the Carpathians through Central Asia to China and Mongolia. A journey through high mountain passes, distant borders and the road home.
One expedition. Two motorcycles.
Mihály Alpár rode Ragnar, his Husqvarna Norden 901, while Bertici Attila travelled on a BMW R1250GS. The 55-day expedition covered approximately 20,000 kilometres through 16 countries.
The story of the route
From the Carpathians to Central Asia
From Romania, the route led through Bulgaria and Turkey towards Georgia, then across Russia and Kazakhstan into Central Asia. Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan formed the expedition’s next major chapter.
China, Mongolia and the Altai
China and Mongolia followed the Central Asian stages. The return journey included the Russian Altai, then continued through Russia and Europe. This outlines the main regions rather than a complete day-by-day itinerary of all 16 countries.
The Pamirs: at 4,300–4,655 metres
The Pamir Mountains were one of the expedition’s greatest challenges. Altitudes of 4,300–4,655 metres and the high-mountain environment gave the ride a chapter of its own. After Central Asia’s seemingly endless roads, the scale of the mountains took centre stage.
China and Mongolia: new horizons
Entering China
Crossing the Chinese border also meant obtaining a Chinese driving licence and number plate. Horgos, Karamay and Kanas Lake were among the key stops on the Chinese stage.
On to Mongolia
Mongolia followed China: one of the expedition’s main destinations and another defining chapter. The full video series also covers this stage of the motorcycle journey.
When the plan changes
In Russia, we also encountered fuel shortages. On the way home, the motorcycles were transported from Novosibirsk to Moscow. Organising that transport became part of the expedition alongside the riding, before the journey ended after 55 days.
